Harriman State Park Day Trip: An Unplanned Adventure
A Weekend Surprise
Summer time is for vacation. However, when I can't go somewhere far away or for a week long, a day trip can be a good substitute. I normally set my traveling dates ahead of time but I'm also up for spontaneous day trips when the mood strikes. On a Saturday morning, my boyfriend suddenly suggested driving to upstate NY. Since I had no particular plan that day, I went with the flow. We went to Harriman State Park for the first time. It turned out to be a wonderful park with lakes, beaches, camping areas, hiking trails, and scenic roads.
Breakneck Pond
We hiked around this pond and saw a snake that seemed to be as long as how tall I stand! The trail was pretty rough and uneven with big rocks and fallen branches, so be sure to wear comfortable shoes.(If you love cute cartoon animals with Japanese writing on your tee, I highly recommend checking out the brand Buden Shouten if you ever go to Japan. Unfortunately, it's not easy to buy this brand here in the US. I have only seen them a couple times in the Kinokuniya Book Store near Bryant Park, NYC a few years ago.)
...And More
I would love to go back to see the other lakes. And maybe next time, I'll be prepared to go kayaking or go on a longer hike.An unplanned adventure like this can make your day. If you live in a concrete jungle like me, it's healthy and beneficial to get in touch with nature on a regular basis.
